Privacy breach or public safety? Teens' Facebook posts monitored by school district
Mon Sep 16, 2013
Monitoring social media is NOT the school's job and none of their business. If parents want to monitor it for their children's safety, that's up to them, but schools have no business doing so.
Japan to issue most serious Fukushima nuclear warning in two years
Wed Aug 21, 2013
The plant obviously has serious problems that aren't just going to be fixed. They need to put in place a plan to completely remove the plant. If they need the power, they can include a plan to build a new plant. Give up trying to repair it and just start over.
Christie signs N.J. bill banning 'conversion therapy'

jdw, if you don't believe sexual orientation is inborn, then you must ask yourself: when did you choose to be heterosexual? If you believe it is a choice, then you must have made that choice for yourself at some point? When was it? How did you make it?
Class system? When it comes to school aid, rich have the edge

In reply to: Linda Brown #72.2If that is true, then it sounds as though your son went to a school where there were many students who worked hard, perhaps even a private school. If a large number of students are all doing great in school, then merit based scholarships are not going to reach all …
Reporter fired after her 'confessions' on personal blog
Mon Jul 29, 2013
In reply to: Tag-1286798 #38Private life? If you post it online, it is no longer private and the station has every right to fire her for posting something that casts the station in a bad light. Especially after she was warned.
NASA funds suspended animation and other far-out space tech ideas

In reply to: Nuadormrac #7.1 That assumes there are additional dimensions to go to. It sounds interesting, but other than theory, there isn't any actual proof of other dimensions. If there are other dimensions, it would be useful to try to reach them. But who knows if they actually …
Asiana to sue TV station over racially offensive fake pilot names
Mon Jul 15, 2013
I was going to say almost exactly what Al in Visalia said. I think an on-air apology is sufficient.
Mom sues Monster energy drink over teen's death
Wed Jun 26, 2013
In reply to: Mad Ski Guy #43 Anything with caffeine *can* kill people if they drink too much, too often. Every adult should know that. There shouldn't be any reason to warn people about it on everything that has caffeine.
Texas abortion bill fails to pass after epic filibuster
Tue Jun 25, 2013
I don't care what anyone thinks about this bill or any other bill. Filibusters should not be allowed. They prevent the diplomatic process. Just vote on the thing. If you can't win, then that's how democracy works. Stop wasting everyone's time.
Congress not 'mature enough' to deal with Voting Rights Act decision
Tue Jun 25, 2013
I'd like a list of exactly what legislation was introduced specifically to suppress voting rights. Note that requiring ID is not suppression of voting rights. Any race can obtain valid ID, so that can't be included in the list.

Babies with knives? Co-sleeping ad angers some parents
Yes, co-sleeping is dangerous and parents should know that.
It really doesn't, though. Is it really such a disservice to warn of the dangers? Even if the warnings are in-your-face? It isn't saying that you can't do it. It's not saying that you are going to kill your baby if you do it.
My only real issue with this cosleeping issue is when it goes too long. A relative of mine did this and it never really ended until much later than it should. The kids were too focused on that being where they had to sleep that they were there until 5 or 6. That is far too long.
